Mission June

It is June…I've noticed a considerable lag in my blogging…I'm not thrilled. I've also notice considerable lag in lots of areas of my life so I need to make some goals. Here we go:

1. Baby steps with the Fly Lady to get back on track in the house.
   
2. Find top of Dining Room table and reorganize the scrappy area so that I can create some awesome cards for my family and SCRAPBOOK
   
3. Create 1 layout a week with Will this summer.
   
4. CROCHET…I've been missing this…assemble Sam's blankie—already did the medallions, just needs assembling. Find a blankie that Will loves and create for him for Christmas present.
   
5. SEW…Will wants some new homemade shirts from his Mommy. J I have material for 1…make him 3 by start of school.
   
6. GARDEN!!! Finish flower bed and work on VEGGIE garden!!!
   
7. Get calendar ready for Organized Christmas…don't want to be left in the cold on that one.
   
8. Get stuff rolling for roof damage…would like son in his new room by August 24^th.
   
9. Read—every night.
   
10. Organize photos to make it easier to scrapbook.
    

That ought to keep me busy, at least a day or two…

Check it out! My boss is setting up a blog and updating her facebook--some networking tools she learned about at her convention this past week--she encouraged me to set up a facebook.
So far it's pretty fun...found friends from High School and Bill's family!
Seems like my Mommie said at one time she had a facebook...can't seem to find her though.

WHERE DID NOVEMBER GO?

Well one minute I was blogging happily about being organized for Christmas and the next minute I've landed in frickin' December! What happened? AUGH!
Good news...mostly done with shopping stuff...even wrapped a few! ha! Been to Thanksgiving and brought food! :) Cooked some extensive food that lasted more than one meal. :) I some regards I've been doing ok.
BUT!!! I've given up on organized Christmas this year. Sometimes you just put too much on your plate and loose site of why you are here. I think that was one of those moments. I've managed to have two bugs...one was viral and assisted me in a 6 pound weight loss last month. it was very yucky. This weekend I leafed with my family at my parents and I think I swallowed one too many leaves...I have that crud that the snot goes down the back of your throat and then makes your throat raw and then you loose your voice! UGH! This too shall pass.
This is the last two weeks before CHRISTMAS BREAK for my son! He is impossible to live with some days! He's so excited about the holidays! BUT for a WONDERFUL change, he has been golden at school and for the most part at home. Usually someone has told him Santa doesn't exist and our lives are in upheaval for those moments from Thanksgiving to Christmas. Then on Christmas day when he views the wonderful gifts that Santa has left for him you hear a resounding : "He does EXIST!" Santa usually leaves proof of his existance with eaten cookies, mess in the yard from the reindeer--we leave them special food and water and they are a mess group--and a letter from Santa telling Will how proud he is of him. :) I love Santa. Those mean old meanies seem to have left him alone this year...that or he just doesn't let them bother him anymore. :)
It's just moments from our 3rd annual Chris-Hannu-Yule celebration starting the Sunday after the last day of school. We started this 3 years ago when my son inquired as to why we didn't celebrate the Jewish Holiday. We researched it, and created a handmade menorah and celebrated the miracle of the oil. Yule has also always been celebrated since before his birth...being Pagan we find the Winter solstice to be particularly special. AND of course, as previously we were Christian and our children's Maternal Grandparents are Christian, we make a point to celebrate Christmas with them every year. What I hope to accomplish with this celebratory show is to allow my children to grow up tolerant and hopefully accepting of people's differences. It's a blessing that we are all so diverse, not a curse.
So...been cubscouting it, been working, been playing with the silly kids, been visiting family with the family, been dealing with one illness or another, been creating :) ...promise not to be gone so long next time!

Well...I missed doing the Christmas Grand Plan this year...that started in August this year. So...I'm going to do the next best thing. Organized Christmas. Follow my progress if you like. I've got some catching up to do as I almost let this one go too! UGH! Pulling my head out and getting it together!

Map Purse

How to Make a Map Purse

Do you have old maps lying around that you don't know what to do with? Perhaps you have a friend with a wanderlust that won't quit, or a spouse who keeps maps as mementos of epic trips. Maps can have a lot of character, so put your old ones to new uses with this fun craft or gift idea.

Things You'll Need

• A map that you don't mind cutting up.
  Roll of 18 inch wide Clear Contact Paper
  Roll of heavy, clear tape.
  Two pieces of heavy, pressed cardboard (4x10 approximately)
  Matchbox car
  Velcro
  Glue Gun (optional)
  Sewing Machine (optional)

Steps

1. Laminate as much of your map as you can with the clear contact paper. Laminate both sides. It is easiest to peel up only a thin (2 inch, 5cm) strip of the contact paper backing at a time and smooth it onto the map as you go. Avoid wrinkles and bubbles, smoothing from the middle to the edges and in the direction you're rolling. You may also want to iron wrinkles out of the map with a cool iron before you begin this step.
2. Remove any areas of the map that are not laminated. This should leave you with a 12 or 18 inch (30-45cm) wide strip of laminated map depending on your roll width.
3. Cut the laminated map strip into two long strips. Make the first three inches (75mm) wide (for the handles) and the second 9 to 16 inches (225 to 400mm) wide (for the sides and flap).
4. Fold the wide map strip so that one end is approximately 6 inches (150mm) longer than the other. This longer strip will become your purse closure flap. Temporarily tape them into position with clear tape or masking tape.
5. Fold the long sides in approximately 3 inches (75mm) each. This will form the ends of your purse.
6. Pinch the corners into a flat miter to form the sides. Take care that your pinches/miters are evenly sized.
7. Tape the side edges together.
8. Tape down the miters on the inside of the purse.
9. Measure, cut and place a piece of cardboardin the bottom of your purse and tape the mitered corners flat over its ends to hold it in place. If you used a sewing machine, turn the purse inside out to hide your seams.
10. Measure the rectangle formed by your miters (the “bottom” of the purse”) and cut a piece of pressed cardboard to match.
11. Cover the cardboard rectangle in laminated map.
12. Sew your handle strips.
13. Fold the remaining 4-inch (100mm) strip of laminated map. For those who sew, fold it as bias tape is folded. Others, fold in the two raw edges about half an inch each side. Then fold the whole thing in half again so that your first folds match up and your raw edges are hidden on the inside of the fold.
14. Tape the handle to your map-covered rectangle.
15. Sew or glue the handle to the ends of your map purse. Be sure to attach it securely enough to withstand the weight of whatever you will carry.
16. Slide the cardboard rectangle into the bottom of the purse and secure it there with glue. This helps the purse hold its shape as well as securing the purse handle.
17. Fold your 6- to 8-inch flap over the front of your purse opening.
18. Mark the area that overlaps on the sides and miter cut the corner.
19. Fold the edges of your flap so that they will line up with the “body” of the purse with little overlap.
20. Sew or tape the edges down and trim off any excess.
21. Place your Velcro tab in the center of the flap and sew or glue it into place.
22. Mark where the flap Velcro lies when the purse is closed. Place the corresponding Velcro tab on the mark and glue or sew it into place.
23. As a cute accessory, glue a Hot Wheels car (or similar) to the center of the front flap.
    

Tips

• This project can be either sewn or taped. Taping is easier and wears approximately the same.
  
• If you don't want a full purse in this style, consider doing a miniature one as a make-up or toiletries bag. Just make sure it closes securely if you're going to put very small items in it.
  

Warnings

• Use appropriate care with scissors and hot glue gun.
  
• Paper dulls needles very quickly.
  

the journey...

As Mommie commented..."here i am!"
it's been a while. I can tell you this. NO I have not stuck to my list for resolutions for the year. Shortly after my last post in February, things at my job became significantly worse. I left due to stress and hostilities in the workplace.
I then took a necessary but painful path through a fog of confusion, pain, uncertainty, and at times sheer terror. I came out the other side a changed [for the better I hope] person.
I have applied for numerous jobs and been on a few interviews. I am certain my previous freak out is a red flag for many of them. Luckily I have been somehow cushioned by money that manifested itself out of thin air...almost. The Lord and the Lady have been watching over us. My family has been watching over us. We are truly blessed.
During this time I have been allowed to volunteer heavily with my son's class and scouts and have thoroughly enjoyed that privilege. I have had the opportunity to watch just how fun my daughter can be and watch her try so hard to be a big girl! She is so funny! So is he!
During this time I have been able to be creative, to help friends who've needed me, to organize [some], to veg some, and to spend time with my darling husband who I am sure I'm driving nuts!
Then one day...out of the blue...I had offered a few times to help a friend of mine at her business. She finally asked for my help as she left out of town. I came in. I did my thing [I'm a people person, I'm a researcher, I'm a question answerer. I love that sort of thing]. When she got back, she asked me to come work for her. It's part time. sort of...it's energizing and exciting and overwhelming sometimes. It's insanely busy some days and then there are days that allow for creativity. It works for now while I'm still looking and applying--and I am. I still check 3 times a week as I had been. It allows me to watch and wait for the perfect thing while having income in the house besides my hard-working husbands.
I'll say it again. Thank you Lord and Lady for watching over my family and helping us to find our way through this uncertain time. Thank you Mommie and Daddy for supporting us both emotionally and financially when we need it.

Cleaning Shop...

Well...while I was helping my son with his blog creation, I browsed some templates...I found this one template when I looked at my mom's blog and I really liked it...what was my favorite thing you ask?? The cool little flowers that are the bullets! HA! makes me just want to make lists!
